Gangadara Kaumini Athukorala: Member of IEEE and Women in Engineering (WIE), WomenTech Network Global Ambassador

🎤 Hi, сould you introduce yourself?

My name is Gangadara Kaumini Athukorala. I'm reading my degree in Management Information Systems at NSBM Green University, Sri Lanka. As a girl, I ready to accept new challenges that I can do and waiting to welcome new life experiences to make my self better.

🎤 What are you working on?

Currently, I'm reading my bachelor's degree on Management Information Systems and studying certificate level at Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
I'm volunteering and moderating virtual and physical events of IEEE and WIE which organize from the student branch of our university.
And also I joined for many virtual events like WomenTech Global Conference 2020.

🎤 How did you get into your field?

Actually get in to tech is one of the turning point of my life. During my school life i was not that much intersecting in tech or IT filed. After my school life I got to know some technologies from social medias and that made me to interest on this field. Then I selected to read my bachelor's degree related to this field and that's why I told this is one of turning point of my life.

🎤 Describe your first project and what is your role in it.

I did my first project at university for semester end assignment. The project was to create an official website. I created a website to provide architectural service to people. I developed front-end and back-end development. That was a good opportunity to me to improve my knowledge and I got a good experience too.

🎤 What tips would you give to someone wanting to break into tech?

1. Be a risk taker - If you are afraid to take risks that means you are not capable of things you are going to do. The Tech field is a dynamic field and to adopt the changes in the field we have to become a risk-taker.

2. Have to learn basics - When you are going to enter any field first of all we have to learn the basics of that field. Not especially for the Tech field. Learning basics in the correct manner will guide you to achieve the top of this filed.

3. Be your own way - Don't imitate any person. If you imitate any person you will be the other version of that person. Try to be your type of version and change the world with your type and enjoy being you.

🎤 What are your career aspirations?

I have many career aspiration. First of all I want to stable my self by what I'm capable of. Then I want to be success with my passion and want to achieve my life goals.

🎤 What IT books, resources, and blogs do you read and recommend to others?

There no any special resources. I hope all the IT books, resources and blogs are outputs of hard worked people. So I think choosing resources might be differ from one person to another.
